Palliative Care in Residential Facilities

A Guide for Patients, Families and Whānau

Understanding Palliative Care

Palliative care is more than a service; it’s a compassionate approach to care. It’s available in various settings, including residential care facilities, catering to individuals facing life-limiting illnesses. Our specialised palliative care and support services extend not only to you but also to your family and whānau and those closest to you.

Our Role

Offering specialised consultative palliative care services for residents in residential care. While your care continues to be provided by the facility staff and your General Practitioner (GP) or Nurse Practitioner (NP), our team is here in a supportive capacity. We offer advice, assessments, and support around the clock via a 24/7 phone service, aiding the facility staff with any concerns.

We collaborate with the facility staff, ensuring that your care is personalised and comprehensive. This encompasses emotional, physical, cultural, and spiritual support, focusing on managing symptoms and meeting your individual needs.

Cost of Care

One aspect we want to emphasise is that there’s no charge for the support provided by Te Kahu Pairuri Hospice Taranaki. Our palliative care services are available to all patients in the Taranaki Region, completely free of charge.
