Health Professional Resources

Comprehensive for Hospice Palliative Care

As health care professionals, staying informed and equipped with the right resources is essential for providing quality palliative care.

At Te Kahu Pairuri Hospice Taranaki, we offer an array of valuable tools to support practitioners in delivering compassionate and effective end-of-life care.

Palliative Care Handbook, New Zealand

Our comprehensive Primary Palliative Care resource caters to general practitioners, nurse practitioners, and other medical staff in secondary care.

The handbook, available via the Hospice New Zealand website, includes guidelines for primary symptom management, information on palliative care emergencies, psychosocial/spirituality resources, and a syringe driver medication compatibility table.

For additional advice or guidance, practitioners can contact our on-call medical officer team during office hours or via the Te Kahu Pairuri Hospice Taranaki switchboard after hours at 06 753 7830.

Te Ara Whakapiri (TAW)

This key resource is designed to guide healthcare professionals in managing patients entering the last days of life.

Developed within New Zealand, TAW is a comprehensive, multi-professional tool providing guidelines for symptom management at the end of life.

It enhances knowledge related to the dying process, improves the quality of care, supports multi-professional communication, facilitates anticipatory prescribing, and more.

Access the Te Ara Whakapiri document and explore the various versions suitable for different care settings. Medical practitioners with questions can contact the hospice on-call medical team for assistance.

Patient / Carer Pamphlets

We provide informative pamphlets designed for patients and those caring for individuals at the end of life. See downloads below

Mauri Mate Framework

Mauri Mate is a framework designed by Māori for Māori, focusing on delivering quality end-of-life care with equity, quality, and compassion.

Hospice Taranaki is committed to implementing this framework into practice.
