Every year, the Dave’s Patch Urenui Golf Fundraiser proves to be more than just a sporting event—it’s a testament to the boundless generosity of Eddie Hollard, his wife Kylie, and their family. This year’s event was another resounding success, raising over $12,000 to support Te Kahu Pairuri Hospice Taranaki.
Eddie’s reputation as a skilled vegetable grower and avid golfer is matched only by his big heart. With the backing of his family and a strong network of connections, he organised a day to remember. His passion for the cause was evident as he thanked sponsors again and again, both on the course and in the clubrooms. If a loudspeaker had been handy, no doubt Eddie would have broadcast his gratitude to everyone as they played!
The event was meticulously run, with Eddie leading a stellar team of organisers. Players were treated to a warm welcome, complete with a BBQ, nearest-the-pin challenges, and even two shots at a hole-in-one. (Rest assured, those challenges were very safe from me claiming victory!) Back at the clubrooms—boasting one of the most spectacular views in Taranaki—participants enjoyed a delicious meal with fresh vegetables, lovingly prepared and thoroughly appreciated after a day on the greens.
No one left empty-handed, thanks to generous raffle draws and prizes for every team. The laughter, camaraderie, and a shared love-hate relationship with the unpredictable white ball made for a truly memorable day.
I was privileged to join my amazing team—Diane, Colin, Evelyn, Steven, and Jake—as we embraced the spirit of the event. While the competition was fierce, the atmosphere was one of fun and fellowship, all in support of an incredible cause: providing care for the terminally ill and their whānau.
A heartfelt thank you to Eddie and Kylie Hollard, Geoff and Anthea Davidson, Eddie Sutton, Sam on the BBQ, and the many others who made the day possible. To everyone who played, bought raffle tickets, or participated in the auctions—thank you for your generosity. Your support helps Hospice continue its vital work in our community.
Until next year, may your drives stay straight and your putts roll true! 🌱
