AGM Leadership Change Announcement

9 December 2024

At our recent Annual General Meeting, we celebrated and farewelled Mike Brooke as he stepped down as Chair of the Board after 12 years of dedicated leadership and 18 years of total service to Hospice Taranaki. Mike took on the role of Chair in 2012, succeeding Peter McDonald, and has worked alongside two CEOs—Kevin Nielsen for the first six years and Paul Lamb for the remainder.

In his final address, Mike shared: “Thank you all for the opportunity to serve as Chairman. It has been both an honour and a privilege.”

Deputy Chair Tim Coleman also reflected on Mike’s outstanding contribution:
“It has been a privilege to have served on the Board of Hospice Taranaki for a number of years with Mike Brooke. Mike’s passion for Hospice values and the needs of our Taranaki community encouraged me to join the Board. To serve our community for 18 years, including 12 as Chair, is a testament to Mike’s natural leadership and dedication. Mike has also contributed nationally within the Hospice NZ structure, earning widespread respect among fellow board chairs for his knowledge and wise counsel.

At this year’s AGM, Mike was surprised to receive Life Membership of Hospice Taranaki—a thoroughly deserved honour. On behalf of the Board, staff, and volunteers, I wish to congratulate Mike on this recognition and thank him for the incredible impact he has made on Hospice Taranaki and our community.”

CEO Paul Lamb added: “Mike’s perspective and sense of humour have been a great support. Thank you, Mike, for your years of dedication—it has truly been an honour to have you at the helm.”

We extend our deepest gratitude to Mike Brooke for his remarkable contributions locally and nationally. His leadership has been an inspiration, and his legacy will continue to shape Hospice Taranaki for years to come.
