Sustainability is often broken down into three pillars: economic, environmental, and social

We have solar power for both economic and environmental reasons...

A solar power energy system has been installed to provide the electricity needs of Te Rangimarie Hospice and the Westown HospiceShop.

This is part of a review of our operational expenditure in very complex financial times for our hospice service. We have partnered with the Toi Foundation and the Hospice Taranaki Foundation to fund this work. After the initial ‘pay back’ period our project will go onto save us many hundreds of thousands of dollars in the years ahead.

Our hospice recognises the wonderful community support and our obligation to be a responsible member of our community in ways that are ecologically and fiscally responsible for all our futures. Using the natural lie of our roof lines for renewable energy and being able to divert cost savings to sustain other parts of our core services are natural synergies of this community relationship and over time this change will also give us options around using electric vehicles in our work.
